
The aim of the Year 10 bridging programme assists students’ smooth transition to IB Visual Art. Besides fundamental art techniques, students are expected to utilize their favorite art medium to illustrate different aspects of life, express and communicate emotion and form an individualized perspective with creativity.
The curriculum also encourages students to research independently and to compare and contrast the relationship between different cultures of countries, as well as cultivate their skills in critical thinking, divergent thinking and self-reflection.

十年级预科课程旨在帮助学生顺利进入IB 视觉艺术课程。教师不但要教会学生基本的艺术技能,使他们运用自己喜爱的艺术手段反映生活和表现生活,并创造性地表达、交流自己的情感和思想。

The aim of IB Diploma Art is to encourage students’ understanding of art. It is a thought-provoking course in which students develop analytical skills in problem-solving and divergent thinking, while working towards technical proficiency and confidence as art-makers. Through developing emotive intelligence and critical thinking skills, art students would become proficient in expressing their point of view with confidence.
Group 6 is an elective course and students may choose courses offered by other groups in its place.

Visual Arts 视觉艺术
The Visual Arts course builds upon student’s prior knowledge, and through investigation and creation of arts, students enhance their research, study and critical thinking skills as well as develop an individualized perspective. The study of visual arts not only improves students’ art making skills, it also enhances students’ understanding of a range of art forms, from traditional forms embedded in local and wider communities, societies and cultures, to the varied and divergent practices associated with new, emerging and contemporary forms of visual language.

The Visual Arts syllabus makes a clear distinction between the course at SL breadth and greater depth in the teaching and learning. The assessment tasks require HL students to reflect on how their own work has been influenced by exposure to other artists and allow them to experiment in greater depth with additional art-making media, techniques and forms. HL students are encouraged to produce a larger body of resolved works and to demonstrate a deeper consideration of how their resolved works communicate with a potential viewer.

Course Structure 课程架构
Assessment will be divided into 3 parts. All in all, 60% of the work will be assessed externally by IB examiners and 40% will be assessed internally by teachers.

Part 1: The Comparative Study (20%) - Externally Assessed
Compare and contrast the work of (at least 2) different artists from different cultural contexts (HL students will also include a reflection of how this relates to their own work)

This is the student’s journal of art‐making which includes: their engagement with different media and techniques, documentation of the process, reflections on artists & artworks and the development of ideas.

Part 3: The Exhibition with a written rationale (40%) - Internally Assessed by Teacher
Students reflect on their chosen body of work and provide a rationale for the decisions regarding the selection of certain pieces for exhibition. SL: 4‐7 artworks, exhibition text and a curatorial rationale of max 400 words
HL: 8-11 artworks, exhibition text & curatorial rationale max 700 words
