Mathematics :

Mathematics bridging program helps students to grasp the basic foundation concepts in order to be prepared for the IBDP Mathematics courses. We also focused in teaching student to use ICT skill, like use of Excel. The rationale behind this is to prepare students to use Graphic Design Calculator (GDC). GDC is very similar to Excel in many ways, including data input and processing, graph plotting reading and handling. Beside, Excel and other similar database software have become popular tools for modern business, so learning it will also help students to develop professional skill for future use.

数学衔接课程帮助学生掌握基本的基础概念,为了IBDP数学课程做好准备。我注重在教学学生使用电脑和信息通信技术的技能的培训,如使用Excel。这样做的理由是为了培养学生使用平面设计计算器(GDC)。 GDC和Excel在许多方面是非常相似的,包括数据输入和处理,图形绘制读取和处理。除此之外,Excel和其它类似的数据库软件已经成为现代企业流行的工具,所以学习Excel也将帮助学生发展专业技能以备将来使用。

Learning Activity

To enhance students’ learning of Excel, after each topic students have to do a mini project on different topics using Excel. The following is a sample of one of the project. Students have to create an automated spreadsheet that accept price of apartment, saving per month and interest rate as input and calculate the time need for such a purchase action.

There are 4 options for Mathematics and our school is providing 3 of them, 



1.  Mathematics (Higher level) 数学(高级课程)

3.  Mathematical studies (Standard level) 数学学习(普通课程) 

Students can choose from one of the subjects based on their abilities, interest, 

other choices of subjects and needs for further studies. In the following section, 

we will introduce each of the above options.

For each Mathematics subject, there are lists of prior knowledge. The prior 

knowledge includes: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability 

and statistics. This prior knowledge should be covered in the normal middle 

school program and is covered in our Year 10 Bridging program. 




The goal of IB Mathematics subjects is to develop logical, critical and creative 17 


thinking, patience and persistence in problem-solving, while letting students 

enjoy mathematics, and develop an appreciation of the elegance and power of

1.  Mathematical Studies Standard Level数学学习(普通课程) 

This course is available only at standard level, and is equivalent in status to 

Mathematics SL, but addresses different needs. It focuses on applications of 

Mathematics, and statistical techniques. It is designed for students with varied 

mathematical backgrounds and abilities. It offers students the important 

concepts and techniques of Mathematics and to gain an understanding of a 

wide variety of mathematical topics. It prepares students to be able to solve 

problems in a variety of settings, to develop mathematical reasoning and to 

enhance their critical thinking. The individual project is an extended piece of 

work based on personal research involving the collection, analysis and 

evaluation of data. Students taking this course are well prepared for a career in 

the social sciences, humanities, languages or arts. These students may need 

to utilise the statistics and logical reasoning that they have learned as part of 

the mathematical studies SL course in their future studies. 










2.  Mathematics Standard Level数学(普通课程) 

This course caters for students who already possess knowledge of basic 

mathematical concepts, and who are equipped with the skills needed to apply 

simple mathematical techniques correctly. The majority of these students can 

expect to need a sound mathematical background as they prepare for future 

studies in subjects such as Chemistry, Economics, Psychology and Business

3.  Mathematics High Level数学(高级课程) 

This course caters for students with a good background in Mathematics who 

are competent in a range of analytical and technical skills. The majority of 

these students will be looking to include Mathematics as a major component of 

their university studies, e.g. in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Physics, 

Engineering and Technology. Others may take this subject because they have 

a strong interest in Mathematics and enjoy meeting its challenges and 

engaging with its problems.
