In addition, as part of my portfolio, I ran leadership training workshops for students and helped organize major school events like Student Council Investiture. I conducted teacher training as well. Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and English Literature from the National University of Singapore.
Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music
Work experience:
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and English Literature from the National University of Singapore. However, having been bitten by the performance bug, I became a professional musician after graduation. I then furthered my music studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where I graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition.
While living in the States, I had the privilege of meeting and working with many outstanding musicians. I have played keyboards and the piano in a variety of musical settings ranging from rock bands to jazz trios and have led big bands and jazz ensembles playing my own compositions.
Apart from composing and performing, I also love teaching and possess a postgraduate diploma in the teaching of Music and English. I have taught these two subjects for more than twenty years and have taught English as a Second Language to students from countries such as Korea, Israel, Japan and Argentina. I am also an experienced curriculum writer, teacher trainer as well as an IB Music examiner; I have conducted teacher-training sessions in Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, Tianjin and Beijing.
Though originally hailing from Singapore, I have been living and teaching in China since 2000 and consider China to be my second home. When not working,I enjoy working out at the gym, photography, reading Chinese novels (that have been translated into English) and producing my own music.
