SIPFLS International High School celebrated their fifth International Cultural Day
To expand our students' vision and promote cultural exchanges, SIPFLS International High School celebrated their fifth International Cultural Day for the SIPFLS tenth anniversary. The purpose of this Festival is to make the soul spark and let knowledge bloom in this world’s boundless cultural network. During this event, special cuisines from different countries and regions, exquisite costumes with exotic features, incredible cultural and creative products with national characteristics as well as live performances, deeply attracted many visitors.
At the beginning of the event, the International High School band performed the song, "Last Christmas". The whole event involved four sessions- "Inspire Your Taste Buds" international food, "Singing Performance and Costume Show" audio-visual feast, "Culture Lights Up the World" cultural and creative products, as well as the "Globalization and Internationalization" cultural introduction. These helped create an inclusive and multicultural campus atmosphere in the school.
Food is the carrier of culture. During the activity, the heads of various countries used their wisdom to prepare and present different but unique national cuisines. Beijing candied hawthorn sticks were sour and sweet; Thai mango glutinous rice cake had a soft and sweet fragrance; Moroccan-Style lamb chops smelt tasty. The mouth-watering food all tempted the visitors’ appetites.
Dressed in various traditional costumes- Student models walked on the stage with confidence. We are familiar with the costumes such as the Chinese Hanfu which is implicit and graceful, and the Japanese kimono which is elegant and dignified. Other national clothes also have their own characteristics: the heroic Scottish kilt as well as the bright and bold Brazilian football shirt. Behind the sewing of clothes is a multi-faceted and long-standing national culture and history.
In addition to costume show and food exhibition, our "cultural ambassadors" also showed the guests the colorful history and customs of different countries through a series of performances- Including Chinese calligraphy and paper-cutting; German military uniform performances; a Korean K-POP dance remix; as well as a Brazilian samba dance and football performances.
Nevertheless, the most unique feature of this International Cultural Day was the release of the "cultural exploration map". The responsible person for each country prepared various questions about their own culture. These questions were published on the maps carefully drawn by each country. As long as you answered all the questions correctly, you could get a stamp. The lucky person who collected all the stamps received a special reward. On this particular day, all guests started a wonderful cultural adventure and gained a lot!
During the event, guests either sought out the fragrance and delicious taste of the food of various countries, or they were attracted by the interesting traditional games of various countries and devoted themselves wholeheartedly to them. Many selfies were taken that day to remember all the joyful moments.
The seventh graders from the Curriculum Integrated Class also held a special Christmas party and invited parents to join them. All of them were so excited! They showed off their talents with confidence on stage, performing different drama performances, chorus singing, Japanese recitation, English performances and more! Additionally, the whole class was divided into four groups (Science/Arts/iWood/Photography), each group presenting their learning outcomes one by one. Some students even sold their own art works, indicating that Self-reliance Education has already taken place in classroom.
Food knows no boundaries, so does culture. Let’s look forward to the next International Cultural Day!
